| This is the Ahnentafel of my paternal grandfather, Hendricus Wilhelmus van Bruggen. The van
Bruggen line of ancestors are predominantly from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland and the surrounding area. His mother's ancestors, the Wolkings are from Steinfeld, Oldenburg in Germany. Her father, Franz Anton Wolking, came to the Netherlands sometime between 1829 (the year of his birth) and 1859 (the year of his marriage in Amsterdam). He was a sailor and a shipscaptain. His cause of death is unknown, but his body was found floating in the Houthaven in Amsterdam on 25 July 1887. The information about his ancestors is uncertain. I have found a website that had a lot of information about the Wolkings, however this website is now off-line. There is a very comprehensive website about the family of his mother, Anna Maria Carolina Honkomp cond. Sahlfeld at Honkomp Genealogy Steinfeld Oldenburg Other surnames you will find in this ahnentafel are: Nenneboog (from Overijsel, Friesland and Drenthe), Dullemont (from Gelderland and Drenthe), and Smagge (from Leiden, Zuid-Holland and Amsterdam, Noord-Holland). Members of the Nenneboog family (along with many others) migrated from Overijssel to work in the peat districts of Friesland. Many of them stayed in Friesland, but at least one branch then moved on to live in Drenthe. A lot of the information was gathered from various genealogy websites and on-line archives. Most notably the Gemeentearchief Amsterdam; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; Geneology Smagge; TRESOAR; GenLias; DrenLias, as well as several others. I would like to give a special thank you to Jan Brul and Otto Brunsting who searched the Amsterdam archives for me and made copies of many records. Their help has been invaluable.
